Green Mobility Unit

Green mobility 2023-2024

The development of “greener mobility” is a challenge of the century to face the global warming and the increasing pollution of urban areas. Many cities are developing innovative solutions to reduce their ecological footprint, mainly due to the transportation sector.

The University of Lille has conducted a “Carbon report” to estimate its Green House Gases; the main contributor is the mobility of the users (60% in the campus “Cite Scientifique”). The CUMIN (Campus of University with Mobility based on Innovation and carbon Neutrality) has been developed since 2016 to propose a demonstrator campus based on electro-mobility. This interdisciplinary programme is composed of different scientific projects to develop advanced solutions. From its original position, international collaborations are developed with Canada (Univ. Trois Rivières, eCAMPUS international Lab), USA (Rochester Institute of Technology), and Belgium (Univ. Ghent). These collaborations demonstrate the interest of these developments.

This training unit aims to present the different scopes of such a required transition toward eco-cities with the CUMIN programme as a realistic background, and present the challenges to face in that perspective.

Green mobility 2022-2023

Since 2019, CUMIN proposes a "Green Mobility" unit for doctoral schools of University of Lille. This unit is composed of 2 hours seminars on various aspect of electro-mobility (EV performances, economcis, societal challenges, enviromental impacts, etc) delivered by speakers from CUMIN and e-CAMPUS. Some of the lectures have also been delivered at Université du Québec à Trois Rivières within the framework of the Assocaitedd International Lab eCAMPUS.
The outline is presented as the following.

Students from several doctoral schools of the University of Lille have followed this unit in 2022-2023. It also included a visit of the eV (electricity Vehicle) platform of L2EP, which is a key elements of the CUMIN programme. The studends had to fill a feedback sheet (the feedback sheet can be found here (pdf 147,2 ko)), and the interest rate was 4.31 / 5 this year. Some comments were the following:

  • Interesting general view on e-mobility / Very interesting and insightful / I understand a lot of things / interest of interdisciplinary project with current and new trends   / advantage, drawbacks, limitations and trends of EV / Very interesting on innovative subjects / not specialist but very easy to understand almost everything / Economics adds a lots of knowledge regarding EV / Combination of national and international lecturers is very interesting and fruitful / Added value of interdisciplinary approach / moments for discussion / explanation very accessible
  • Not enough technical / need more economical part / need more policy part / Copy of slides for every lecture is better / Addition of a simulation part could be fine.

The slides introducting the unit can be found here (pdf 3,5 Mo).
